What to Expect Working as a PRIVATE CHEF
The life of a Private Household Chef is very different to that of a restaurant or hotel chef and is often a good move for those who still have a passion for cooking and want to do something new. A Private Chef job will vary house to house and it is important that you join the right family for you where you are able to cook the style, cuisine and types of food that you enjoy. Each family will have their own preferred style of food and often each family member with have individual preferences and dietary requirements. As their Private Chef, you must be able to listen and cater to their exact requirements.
Your working hours can vary greatly house to house, some roles are Mon-Fri others will involve every single weekend. Some homes you may be catering for 4pax each day, others you can be catering for much greater numbers. Your salary will often reflect the amount of work required.
This type of work will not suit a chef who insists on doing things his way, who has an ego and definitely not for those who have a temper. You are entering someone’s home, you must, therefore, be respectful of their privacy, their tastes and their way of life. So if you are interested in private chefs jobs or private cook jobs, it can be a rewarding career which can often involve some travel should you wish.
In order to apply for some of these roles, you may need to have a valid UK working visa. For more information and to check if you qualify, take a look at our UK Working Visa Guide here.
