What to Expect Working as a NANNY
Working as a nanny or governess within a Private Household can be a fantastic lifelong career. You will become a trusted member of the family to often have sole care of the children in the absence of the parents. Longevity is of huge importance, you will be expected to stay with the family for years and be a big part of the children’s lives as they grow up. It is essential that you are qualified, have glowing references and a valid DBS check. Your duties will vary family to family, it will depend on the age of the children, their daily routine, the routine of the parents etc. Generally speaking, you will be required to get the children up and dressed in the morning and those old enough off to school, during the day you will look after younger children, tidy the children’s areas of the house, help with some household chores and plan activities for after school. Once the children have been collected from school, you’ll keep them entertained with various activities, you’ll help them complete homework, you cook their dinner and often do the bedtime routine. It is often essential that you can drive and are happy to drive the children. Your role may be a live-in position or a live-out position depending on the role.
